Made in Kent Radio Brand Acquired by Greenwich Media CIC
Greenwich Media CIC has announced the acquisition of the Made in Kent Radio brand and assets, securing the future of the much-loved local station from 2 March 2026.
Made in Kent Radio was founded five years ago by respected radio presenter and producer Matt James, who has worked in the radio industry for more than 30 years. The station was originally launched in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to champion local businesses and deliver truly local content to communities across Kent.
In 2024, Made in Kent Radio moved into Bluewater Shopping Centre, strengthening its presence within the county. However, the station closed in December 2025 due to financial pressures, including rising business rates.
Greenwich Media CIC, which already operates Maritime Radio, sees the acquisition as a significant opportunity to expand its community-focused broadcasting across Kent. By bringing Made in Kent Radio into its portfolio, the organisation aims to strengthen support for local businesses, charities and community groups while ensuring the continuation of the station’s distinctive local identity.
Made in Kent Radio broadcasts a popular mix of music from the 1980s through to the present day, alongside local news, features and entertainment tailored for families across the county.
As part of its next phase of growth, Made in Kent Radio is set to launch on DAB across Kent in April 2026, making it even easier for listeners to tune in at home and in their cars. The station will also continue to be available via the Made in Kent Radio app and on smart speakers by saying, “Play Made in Kent Radio.”
Duncan Martin, of Greenwich Media CIC, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Made in Kent Radio into the Greenwich Media family. This station has built a strong connection with communities across Kent, and we are committed to continuing that legacy. Local radio plays a vital role in supporting small businesses, charities and community organisations, especially during challenging times. Our goal is to invest in the brand, grow its reach on DAB, and ensure it remains a powerful voice for local people.”
Plans are also underway to reintroduce the Media Academy, creating new opportunities for young people across Kent to develop practical media and broadcasting skills.
Made in Kent Radio’s DAB launch is planned for April 2026. The station is currently available by downloading the Made in Kent Radio app or by asking your smart speaker to “Play Made in Kent Radio.”
